A driver being sleepy can have pretty big consequences for others out on the roads. Lives can be lost or forever altered by auto crashes coming out of a driver not being awake enough at the wheel. Given this, high-stakes compensation issues can come up in connection to these types of accidents. Following a drowsy driving crash here in Florida, victims or families affected may want to go to an attorney skilled in personal injury litigation to discuss what such issues are present and to get guidance on navigating these issues.
In a previous post, we discussed how drowsy driving is a costly and possibly underestimated safety risk out on the roads. Statistics from here in Florida indicate that this type of driver behavior has, unfortunately, also been behind more and more accidents in the state in recent years.
This data indicates that, since 2013, Florida has seen nothing but increases in annual totals for fatigued driving crashes. The statistics also indicate that the state recently experienced a big jump in fatalities related to such accidents. In 2015, drowsy driving crashes were behind 23 deaths in the state. This was much higher than the totals the state saw in either 2013 or 2014. In both of those years, the total was 14 deaths.
These numbers raise some serious concerns about how awake Florida’s drivers are when they are at the wheel. Why do you think drowsy driving accidents have been on the rise in Florida in recent years? What do you think are the biggest impediments to bringing these totals down?
